Program wyjazdu
Evening arrival at Keflavík Airport, followed by a transfer to the hotel.
After breakfast, we will take a walk through Iceland’s cozy capital, visiting its most important landmarks, including Hallgrímskirkja Church, the Harpa Concert Hall, and the charming Parliament building.
Next, we head east towards the famous Golden Circle. We will admire the impressive, two-tiered Gullfoss waterfall and visit the Geysir geothermal area, home to geysers and hot springs – the very place from which the word “geyser” originates.Early in the morning, we set off west towards the capital of the north – Akureyri. Despite its small population (around 17,000 residents), Akureyri is the cultural heart of northern Iceland. The city boasts its own airport, port, concert hall, university, and conference center. It is beautifully situated at the end of a long fjord and surrounded by high mountains. In the afternoon, we enjoy a walk around the town.
We travel to the picturesque Lake Mývatn, surrounded by extinct volcanoes, bubbling hot springs, and geothermal vents. The region’s geothermal waters are used for energy production. We will visit the museum at the Krafla geothermal power plant, where geological processes and energy production are explained in an accessible way. Afterwards, we explore the extraordinary lava fields of Krafla.
We continue exploring the attraction-rich Mývatn area. We will hike up the massive volcanic crater Hverfjall (420 m above sea level) and walk through Dimmuborgir – a surreal “forest” of lava formations shaped into fantastic forms.
Later, we head to the harbor town of Húsavík, where those interested can join a several-hour whale-watching cruise (optional). Húsavík itself is also a charming town, full of cozy corners and great places to enjoy good food and delicious cappuccino – perfect for those who prefer to stay on land. :)
If time allows, we will also visit the Tjörnes Peninsula, home to colonies of puffins and other seabirds. We begin the day by heading east. First, we visit the majestic, green Ásbyrgi Canyon. Then we continue to the spectacular Dettifoss waterfall and the nearby Selfoss. Dettifoss is one of the most powerful waterfalls in Europe – 100 meters wide, with water plunging 45 meters into the canyon below.
From Dettifoss, we travel further east into the region known as the East Fjords, named for its dramatic fjord-dominated coastline. We start the day in the beautifully located and atmospheric town of Seyðisfjörður, a port visited by passenger ferries from Norway and the Faroe Islands. Next, we head to Hengifoss – the largest waterfall in eastern Iceland.
We then continue south, enjoying ever-changing landscapes along the way. The route takes us near Höfn and the Stokksnes Peninsula, offering stunning views of dramatic mountain scenery. Finally, we reach the area of Vatnajökull – the largest glacier in Iceland and Europe – where we will see one of its many outlet glaciers up close.During the first part of the day, we travel along the Vatnajökull glacier. We admire the glacier lagoons Jökulsárlón and Fjallsárlón, where chunks of ice broken off from the glacier float on the water’s surface.
We also take a walk to a glacier near Skaftafell, offering unforgettable views. In the same area, we visit the remarkable Svartifoss waterfall, famous for its basalt columns and known from scenes of Game of Thrones. After breakfast, near the village of Vík, we visit the iconic black sand beach and admire spectacular sea stacks rising from the ocean, set against dramatic cliffs on the Dyrhólaey Peninsula.
Along the way, we also see the famous Eyjafjallajökull volcano, which caused major disruptions in 2010, as well as two beautiful waterfalls – Skógafoss and Seljalandsfoss.
